If you want to hit your iron shots
better, it's
critical that your
divot starts UNDER the ball, not behind it! Take
the "FAT" out of your game! To
accomplish this, you need only learn how to practice,
not how to diet.
THE DRILL
....... |
Start
by drawing a line on the ground (or in a large
sand trap), perpendicular to the target line.
....... |
Straddling the line, ground your club on the line as if you're addressing a ball.
....... ....... |
Now
imagine a ball is centered on top of the line
and start taking divots until you can hit the
line first every time! The object
of this of course, is to acquire the ability to
hit the ball first which should start the
divot under the ball.
....... |
Another
tip I learned from my Guru -Jimmy Bullard- many years ago on how to
eliminate "fat" is to experiment with the
idea of focusing your eyes on the leading edge of
the ball instead of the back. As Mr. Bullard put it...this
better enables the club-head to get to the "little
ball" before it gets to the big
one!
Sez Woody... don't go to the range
and just beat on balls. Go with an exact plan
of what you want to improve on and practice
just that. Keep practicing until you have improved
that part of your game. |
AND
REMEMBER WHAT JACK SAID... "Practice doesn't make
perfect...
PERFECT PRACTICE makes PERFECT!"
